Sharjah Public Transport Corporation was established by the Emiri Decree No. 21 in the year 2002, modified to Act No. 4 in the year 2006, issued by H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, member of The Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates and The Ruler Of The Emirate of Sharjah as a governmental authority, with the major role to initiate, regulate and control all activities of public transport in the Emirate of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

Sharjah Public Transport Corporation has the following responsibility:

• Establish and control policies for all types of public transport in the Emirate of Sharjah in coordination with the governmental authorities
• Develop and establish business environment for companies, who are intending to practice the activity of transport; issue, renew and cancel transportation licenses
• Provide transportation services and vehicle maintenance for governmental corporations, authorities and departments
• Provide passengers transportation services within and from the Emirate of Sharjah
• Offer a modern passenger´s transportation network with a superior and best quality services

In the recent last years Sharjah Public Transport Corporation developed and successfully concluded following major projects:

• Development of public taxi services by replacing the old taxi system by new and modern taxi fleet, operating in and from the Emirate of Sharjah
• Improvement of taxi services at Sharjah International Airport
• Launch of Sharing Taxi services
• Development of taxi service in the Eastern and Central regions
• Establishment of InterCity bus routes between major cities in United Arab Emirates
• Development and operation of a new and modern public transportation bus network
