  • Transport bodies roll on power-saving initiatives
29-Dec-2011
The Sharjah Transport Corporation expects to save Dhs350,000 while Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is distributing energy saver bulbs as both transport bodies roll on effective power-saving initiatives.

The STC has connected its new headquarters where it will shift next month to the Building Management System (BMS), which is a centrally computerised system that runs when energy and air conditions are in use.

“We expect to save up to 980,000 Kilowatts of electricity worth Dhs325,000 and save the operation cost of electricians valued at around Dhs25,000 totalling to Dhs350,000 in annual saving, said the corporation’s engineer, Ahmad Al Wikaad.

A BMS usually incorporates controls for air-conditioning, for energy management, maintenance management, security access and fire systems.

In the neighbouring Dubai, the RTA has joined the electricity and water management body (DEWA) and Emirates Wildlife in distribution of energy saver bulbs and preaching the culture of saving water and electricity.
The RTA Power Consumption Saving Team initiative is revolving around the concern of the Vice-President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum said the Head of RTA Power-Saving Team, Mohammed Abdullah Al Ali.
