As more and more items are getting lost in cabs, though mostly are returned, passengers have been advised to watch their personal belongings and double check their seats before getting off. According to a senior official, Sharjah Transport Corporation (STC) has managed to return 368 lost items to their owners over the last nine months. However, some have not been returned.

  • 32% drop in illegal taxis in Sharjah

Sharjah Transport has reported a 32 per cent drop in the number of illegal taxi and car lift providers in the first half of the year as compared to the same period in 2010. The corporation attributed the decline to the development of bus and taxi fleets. As many as 5,614 cabs and 224 buses are running on the emirate's roads. The launch of new bus stops at crowded areas and the deployment of more patrols and controllers are additional grounds.

The construction of bus sub-terminals in three locations across Sharjah is expected to be completed by 2012, a senior official from the Sharjah Transport Corporation (STC) has said. The three will be located behind the Al Taawun Center, Al Mowaileh area and also near the Sharjah Club close to the ADNOC Petrol Station.
